PHASE 3: ABANDONED SENMACHI MALL
LISTEN & READ
Information: This location is reserved for Team 2. Please role-play where Sakurai left off, getting on the bus, and exiting it at your designated location. Everyone on team 2 has been issued a picture through text message on the description of the cursed. We will also try to wrap this up before 15 posts.
Standing outside was one of the examiners. He waited for the entirety of team 2 to exit the bus and once they did he would give them a brief. "Greetings team two, my name is Hiro Minamoto. Just before your arrival, I texted you all the curse's profile, however, that isn't much to go on." Hiro slid his hands into his pants pockets while turning away from the four students. "I'm not sure what exactly is inside the mall myself, but you should tread with extreme caution. The shaman we recently sent in a week ago set cameras up all through the interior for this day, but sadly he didn't make it back outside." Hiro turned around to face them once more. "The attack patterns of this curse are unknown, its abilities are unknown, but what is known is that it likes to start with long-ranged attacks and then to close in on targets. Other than that, you all should be fine...I think. Anyways, good luck!" Hiro walked away and hopped in his blue 2005 Honda Accord and sat inside with the engine turned while looking in his phone to observe their progress.

The pack of four roamed the mall, lost in their own conversations. The trodding of their feet lead them into unknown darkness. In time they round their way from the first floor up the dormant escalators. They round the corner. The dusty and lifeless environment was rife with graffiti and old garbage. In their leisure, Okiku and Taiku' took it upon themselves to socialize despite taking up the helm of their formation. Maybe it was a way of taking their mind off the dark in which they spearheaded. The same could not be said for the Kamo and Ryu, who's attention was on strategy. Behind them the darkness gnashed at their heels, fading visibility with each passing step.
"So, how do you like to fight." Rengoku utters. He was clever, sensing the break in formation. It was best to gauge the capability of who is around you. That way you can work together. Atsui Ryu responds with quick thinking of his own. Scanning the area his eye. spots an object on the ground. Clearly a remnant of a past skirmish.
"Well usually I have my bat but I didn't think I'd need it, more so, I just use my fist and blunt objects perfectly placed in this universal state of being." He takes the object in his hand. And continues.
"A sloppier craftsmanship but a job well done on it's own, I suppose three good hits before this bitch breaks."
Taking time to grab this object created a slightly larger break in their formation, even if just minor. At best, 8 or 9 feet of space between the two groups. It was honorable that both these human youths could not take their mind off total victory. They didn't just want to pass, to survive. They wanted to silence the curse for good. A noble goal for any true sorcerer. Luckily for them, today they would get their opportunity...
This moment, this break in time Is met with the shattering of glass. To all of their relative "left"; within an abandoned grocery store stood their target. The curse towered as its figure wriggled about, easy to see as the suns light beamed down from the skylight. It had thrown a pack of 7 energy blades. They shattered the stores windows and broke off into two sets, first coming to a full stop. Four toward Okiku & Taiku and three toward The Kamo and Ryu.
Each laser stops for exactly one second whilst tracking the target, swiveling in the air to accommodate any changes in position, then fires off again. They were not the fastest of projectile sure, but the propulsion given after a direction change made them unpredictable. It became painfully obvious that their purpose was to track cursed energy and hone in on it. Better not to find out what happens if they touch you. That would be a painful lesson.
Inside the store the curse observed these humans with poise, right arm raised allowing a new set of projectiles too manifest around the digits of its fingers.
One Two -----> Three Four --------> Five Six Seven
Bright red they formed out of the nothingness that is cursed energy, snug between the digits of its knuckles. Its other hand placed firm on the grip of its mighty blade. It was curious how these dim lights would choose to shine. Just as they had ever intention of killing it. So had it every intention of taking all four of the their heads.

CALM BEFORE THE...
Old Senmachi Mall—Okiku Ito
"Yeah! We'll definitely be good friends, Taikutsuna!" He said cheerfully. Taiku's brightness was unwavering despite the situation, giving Okiku reliance in her strength. However, they found themselves within the palm of a curse's hand. The mall was large and open, but there's always two sides to the same coin. Narrow corridors and twisting paths that led to more regions or merely dead-ends. These confusing paths are what funneled the members into a group. "Pop is a popular genre, you fit its energy too, yeah?..You said Ballads?!" While this was said, he caught remnants of Rengoku and Kingu's dialogue, useful information for later, I'm sure.
..CURSE?
Old Senmachi Mall—Okiku Ito
Seems like he caught it just in time too. Glass abruptly shattered, the noise doing the same the team's senses. As confusion erupted from Okiku, his head swiveled to find the origin of this noise. Unlucky for him, he merely caught an image of their target's vile face. He turned his entire body to face it. It's body was unorthodox, as expected. Its movements were jerky and held no pattern.. Suddenly, to Okiku, the atmosphere felt drier. Or, was it the feeling of heat that attacked him? Was it just the curse's bloodlust? 'The hell? It's just out in the open. Is it.. Confident?' He fended off nervousness with his own, powerful thoughts, reminding himself his answer for the final question of the online assessment. 'I can say with confidence: That I'll beat a third grade spirit.' Time to put that to the test, yeah? Well, that'd be after some needed activity.
A number of knives were cutting through air, moving as though physics hadn't applied to them. They split into two groups, dividing once more to accompany for all of the group. This is where we're at in the story. As the knives stopped mid-air, they turned. "Keep watch!" Focusing the tip of their sharp edge between Okiku's eyes, they shot forward with fatal aim. Avoiding them would be no easy feat, surely. But, Okiku's heightened physical prowess allowed for a more clean attempt.
He pulled his head to the left, finding the knife slipping past with nothing more than a hair off his head. He repeated this process to gracefully avoid the newly adjusted second knife, to his right instead. His movement mimicked a boxer's simplicity and speed as he slipped through the offense as if it were a few speedy jabs. If out of the way, he'd take a glance to his teammates to see how they would react. Right after, shooting a spiteful glare to the curse and a final look to his back. To his dismay, this wasn't the last of the projectiles. In fact, it was only the beginning. They spun in the air to track Okiku's distinct source of cursed energy. Just like that, they shot forward once again with the same velocity as before. Only difference, it was slightly less of a surprise. He was able to avoid, but not without thoughts coursing through his mind. 'They track don't they? This'll be so annoying. What do they track though? Heat? Possibly..'
As he remained within some distance around his original spot to keep simplicity, he was already in the midst of crafting a means of advancing. While this was going on, though, he wasn't silent. "Keep an eye on these things, they're gonna be real annoying if we don't handle them properly, y'all got me?!" His voice was clear and filled with distinct flair. His mind settled on a plan not too long after.
UNFORGETTABLE!
Old Senmachi Mall—Okiku Ito
"Aye, Strawhats! Listen close. I'm only going to say this once." He finally broke from his original position, pulling the distance from him and the projectiles to vasts lengths. With pressure lessened from the seemingly never-ending assault from the blades, he spoke with urgency. "Taikutsuna, Kamo Guy (wasn't it Rengoku?). You two support me and the Ryu advancing the curse with some long ranged attacks. Think yall can handle that?" While speaking, he put his slight of hand to use. Releasing his shikigami: Otsuyu. There was no flashy entrance, just the black body of a snake uncurling from around Okiku's arm and into the cracks the light of the sun failed to reach. What was Okiku's plan? That'd be discovered later on. For now, Otsuyu merely advanced to the curse, hidden by irking shadows.
"You all do trust me, yeah?" He glanced to Taiku, the closest to him at the time. He'd then give orders to her and some ideas to Rengoku. "Use the glass as your ammo, Taiku, Rengoku. Dragon blood, you try to keep up." Clearly signaling Kingu, he gave a motivated look to the curse—his golden eyes lit with emotion. Music was blasting from his headphones. Even when they weren't directly to his head, their sound was still clear to hear, blaring an energetic tune. The knives crafted from the curse's fine control over its energy was on the move and quickly approaching. Yet, their target was gone, merely hitting Okiku's initial location. The brown haired kid was already on the move. He left the blades to follow but gave no promises they'd catch up as he moved within a speed reasonable enough to cover the ground at a safe rate. (Enhanced 1.2) As they adjusted, he was already deep in the process of closing the gap, just around 4 meters away already. He hoped Kingu was doing the same. His shikigami, nonetheless, were hot on their approach as well. Sure the curse was confident, but how would it fair when two wielders of empire-crushing levels of cursed energy rushed it? He also caught wind of the knives which seemed to be forming between knuckles and the sharp blade in its hilt. Surely a few things to be wary of.

CHAPTER ONE
The air was suddenly rent by the sound of breaking glass.
There’d been nothing that’d caught her attention faster; the beating of her heart accelerating with excitement. Her head snapped in the direction of the noise, and it was as if it’d occurred in slow motion. She briefly imagined the first crack being small, barely the length of a hairpin. Then, accelerating, it’d branch like a drunken spider’s web before imploding. The explosive arc brought some of the shards to Taikutsuna’s very position—scattered on the errant stone—and she brought her gaze to the curse, wide-eyed. However, she had no time to react. Having stood right beside Okiku, the blades headed on an undeviating course—straight towards her!
It seemed that Taikutsuna worked best under pressure. Her body twisted out of their path, and the girl eyed the blades with growing anticipation. To her dismay, the projectiles swiveled, pausing for exactly one second—she counted—and shot in her direction once more. She pivoted in a rhythmic pattern with the blades, keeping one foot stuck to the ground and rotating her body around that foot accordingly. The weight was balanced on the ball of her front foot, remaining in the same place, whilst her back foot would slide in a particular direction. It was reminiscent of a basketball pivot. Each time, they just barely singed her skin, her periodic movements proving to be just enough to avoid anything severe. Occasionally, the blades would force her to maneuver to avoid them, but the previously described footwork made it possible for her to evade them in those circumstances. Her dance, however, was interrupted by Okiku’s familiar voice.
Taiku had something of a hard time focusing on his words, though she managed to make out the key phrases. Multitasking was certainly anything but her strong suit. Long-ranged, support, Kamo..? The words she’d registered had little time to be retained, but, at least, she was familiar with most of them.
She narrowly avoided one of the blades as she dipped down, using the single second she had to grasp a shard that’d fallen foul to the ground. Taikutsuna gripped the glass rather tightly, but she seemed oblivious to the sharpness digging into her palm. The girl infused the shard with cursed energy, and was thinking only two words: Throw it! Facing the general direction of both blades, she picked the closest,, and with the accuracy of a baseball pitcher, she hurled the shard at it. If the glass had no effect, it wouldn’t affect her in the slightest—she’d have already been on the move. The girl wasted no time dwelling on it. Taiku had to help her team!

With Okiku leading the charge, the group of young sorcerers jump right into the fray. Okiku and Kingu Ryu take the lead, the numerous snakes and metal bat acting as invaluable tools against this curse. The projectiles were much more simple than anticipated and after a single redirection they shattered against whatever surface they met. Even as the curse throws out more the projectiles are easily countered by The likes of The young Kamo & unmei respectively. In the end, the blood red sky and shuttering of Tokyo unsettled the curse just enough for the group to strike it down. Now that their job was complete, Hiro and the students rode back in Hiro's vehicle. The students would be returning to Tokyo Tech for the "rally" in which the principle would welcome them as official students. In the end, this group of students had escaped with some scrapes and bruises, but their lives and pride in tact. The sudden seismic event no doubt opened them up to various questions on what had happened. Though what exactly was for them to figure out on their own.
