The Track and Field

The dirt road leads from the Campus grounds to a shoddy building that houses the small wooden floor gym. Various lockers and lodging sits between the entrance and the field itself a large green section sits at the center of the red track. Stands for fans sit around the track, though it has typically been empty due to the limited amount of sorcerers and people knowledgeable of their exploits. The Field has multipurpose use and is one of the largest most open areas present.

“You already said that.”

Ao’s movement punctuated Majin’s roar of commencement; he heaved his focus and energy all into a forward motion immediately on sight of Majin’s crashing palm, like a bull amid primal pursuit of his matador’s dangling red cloth. But unlike the bull, Ao -- whose brow had grown so furrowed and concentrated it almost seemed to swell -- acted not out of crazed fear or anger but because his opponent tantalized him, and because his cousin’s swinging hand invoked in him a sense of duty and impassioned initiative. Feet slid inches at a time across the unguarded gap, shifting with the same patternless tempo but this time forwards and at a throttling pace. With his legs already tuned to the motion, eating the space proved a seamless maneuver. Once in striking range he planted the ball of his left foot over Nagi’s leading toes, clamping over them and rattling the bone and connective tissue enough to inconvenience his mobility and inflict irritating pain. In unison with his foot Ao’s arm snapped from its place at his collarbone and bridged the space between them. His elbow jolted to straighten his arm and the skin folded, taut around the knuckles and ridges of tendon as his fist fulfilled its trajectory. It aimed to strike just beneath Nagi’s lowest ribs and into his liver, plaguing him with a jarring, near-debilitating pain that would make him much more vulnerable to attempts at pushing him from the circle.

“But thanks. I’ll be doubly lucky.”

Unlike the last match, Ao swore to himself, this bout would be entirely one-sided. Though he appreciated his readiness, his opponent lacked the proactivity and sense of direction Ao exercised. At least, it seemed that way from how he stood: idle, absent-minded, stationary. The nature of his whole plan of action depended on his opponent’s advance, which granted Ao prime control and a substantial head start. He would take advantage of this stagnance and malleability on his opponent’s part, he decided. And in slim time he would mold the battle to his favor.

As soon as Ao made his move Nagi made sure to keep his gaze focused completely upon Ao as to allow for the best possible for what to come. While he didn't know what his opponent would do, it was quite clear it would be hard-hitting. In the end, as he had guessed Ao had no intentions of starting out slow and came at the tall blonde haired boy with a full head of steam with bad intentions. As Ao moved it seemed to Nagi that the distance between them closed rather quickly. "Damn this guy's pretty quick. If this wasn't one on one I might be in trouble," said Nagi to himself as Ao closed the distance ready to make his first attack, which wasn't something that Nagi had expected as it was usually most of his opponent's first instinct to aim for the head in an attempt to go for a quick knockout. This time though it seemed as though Ao had more fighting experience than the previous two fighters who simply punched each other in the face. As for the actual attack that was aimed at him, Nagi was able to deduce that his opponent was most likely trying to inhibit his movement by aiming to crush his foot. To deal with the incoming stomp to his front foot Nagi would quickly withdraw his lead leg from its position raising it up and chambering his leg as if ready to pivot and unleash a powerful kick at any moment. Unfortunately, that wasn't the plan as shortly after he chambered his leg it would shoot straight back down onto the extended leg of Ao specifically the kneecap. As the sole of his shoe would collide with Ao's leg Nagi would reinforce his foot enhancing the strength of the strike intending to snap the leg as to take away one of Ao's limbs, because as they say if you can't stand you cant fight.
Track and Field - Page 3 Faf298c03f8efa853510d639cbce7532af695ba8
As this counter to the stomp would occur Nagi would drop one of his hands from his guard in response to the other part of this two-pronged attack, the heavy liver blow that Ao had attempted to throw in alongside his stomping attack. Fortunately, for Nagi, these sorts of strikes were perfect for his unique style of fighting to counter. As the strike would shoot forth aiming to most likely wind the boy and crush his ribs, the hand he had dropped would swing out a strange seal appearing upon it as it moved down making contact with the side of the fist. At the exact moment his hand connected with the fist he would simply apply the required force to the side to guide the fist off course countering the strike and protecting himself. With the attack of Ao Ryu countered Nagi would follow up with a powerful and devastating palm heel strike with his dominant right hand aimed right at his sternum. This strike wouldn't be a simple strike it was a cursed energy reinforced strike thrown with the intention of cracking his opponent's sternum and knocking him back creating distance between them.
Track and Field - Page 3 E8242a1fa9387661ee2f2138342b0af9
"This guy isn't a pushover. I'm gonna have to make sure to not lose focus or I'll end up flat on my back," Thought Nagi to himself realising that this cocky goofball didn't have this crazy confidence in himself for no reason.

With each movement Nagi’s portrait became clearer. With each step and swing of his limbs the contours sharpened, the values deepened, wild textured swathes of color bridged, the sinews of his likeness gathered and contracted with each other to form him there, gleaming, in Ao’s mind. Now all it needed, he thought, was his own personal artistic influence, a signature. Under Ao’s eyes Nagi fought as expected, though with respectable and consistent technique. But he compensated for his attack too simply, and failed to analyze it with ample foresight or rigor. And because his movements lacked the proactivity, the sheer vibrance, and the broad, calculated sense of self Ao’s pulsated with, Ao was certain Nagi would soon find himself consumed.

Clearing the way for Ao’s leg to land in his space not only compromised Nagi’s balance, but also played into Ao’s plans, establishing himself in a position that might have made him temporarily safe, but ultimately made him more vulnerable to his long-term assault. As Nagi raised his leg Ao abandoned his jab and shot downwards in pursuit of it. The boy had planned to displace his foot by stepping over it, laying a trap to ultimately seize his balance. He fell into a lunge and tucked his elbows at his sides, forearms jutting out and hands tight and outstretched like alert antennae. He tucked his upper body so it swerved inches from the incoming palm strike and concentrated his power and balance into a small crouching fortress. Ao limited Nagi’s ability to amass momentum for his kick by shooting in (though only in the functional sense; his technique differed from the conventional style used in wrestling because it worked better situationally), a maneuver made easy from his personal momentum gained by his previous advance. In his lowered stance his arms whipped out and attempted snatching Nagi’s raised lead heel. They would bind around it until his knuckles strained through the skin like pale pink pearls and disrupted the circulation through Nagi’s ankle. Since he acted on his opponent’s reaction and led the chain of events because he had initiated them, Ao could make such movements before Nagi could begin to kick. While his peer had to first compensate and prepare before laying his own attack, Ao could skip to the final stage and interrupt his busy and vulnerable opponent. Because he had saved time by attacking first, he needed not react, especially not in a way that made him more susceptible like Nagi. His surface-level approach to combat granted Ao grand authority over the exchange, which he planned to use ultimately to win. With his leg raised and preparing to launch outwards Nagi’s mobility was restricted, and if he tried to shift himself or his foot to evade he wouldn’t be able to do so to an extent that wouldn’t allow for Ao to easily compensate and still follow through with his grapple.

If he secured Nagi’s heel – the most likely outcome – Ao would burst up from his lunge and back into his previous stance in a single abrupt motion, providing his opponent little time to compensate for the severe disruption to his balance. He would heft it over his left shoulder beside his head, forcing Nagi to rotate himself partially away from Ao in order to remain upright. Then he would swing his right leg to the fore and sweep it against the back of Nagi’s left calf with enough force and poise to finally topple him.

Ao looked somehow even more pale than normal under the loose drizzle and blinding canvas of cloud overhead, reflecting dull white light on him. He had grown mostly used to the rain. Now he relished in the slight muddy give of the ground, the way his sneakers stamped their alien patterns into it and dishevelled writhing clots of mud with each step. He enjoyed the rain and how constantly it fell over and adorned him. Each drop to him was a liquid gem absorbed into his skin, rejuvenating and gilding him with the strength to further his offense.

"Ohoo ~" Majin exclaims from his front-row seat. From their statuesque posture, the two would thrust into motion. Ao takes off first, as expected. His tight frame and top speed made him cut through the wind like butter. One could hardly hear his feet against the wet ground beneath him. He throws a half-hearted jab out to entice the towering Nagi, who then extends his foot to place an obstacle in the pathway forward. Nagi, attempting to out play the speedster thrusts a palm strike toward center frame, hoping to knock the wind out of the bald dragon.
Not a bad move to make but...
His thoughts are then cut by Ao's version of a sprawl. From where Majin stood, he was likely going for somewhere around the knee or ankle area. Though at this speed, it was difficult to predict everything. Only an eye capable of discerning key details could make everything out with some level of precognition and visualization. Ao had banked on his speed and more or less...fell into his attack. His only real shift was of his feinting maneuver, dropping his hands rather than actually committing to the body blow. Though, just a single leg may not have been enough. Fighting could be and often was a dirty game.
Brave to get so low like that so quickly. Anything could happen. Let's see if he can deal w the consequences. I'm sure Nagi will get a hand in there....

Of course, all The Dragon could do was watch the battle play out. His focus spiked his adrenaline. He was happy for them. Caste into the throws of combat. Majin had hoped to see some students with some potential, and in his mind, if it had been only one that would have been more than enough. but two? heh...I think we might have hit the jackpot baby."

In the aftermath of the high-speed back and forth between himself and Ao Ryu, it would soon appear as though Nagi may have finally run out of moves as his complicated multi-attack counter had been seemingly made completely obsolete. On the bright side though unbeknownst to himself, he had managed to put on a decent show for his Teacher alongside his opponent and classmate. As for his actual actions following Ao's counter to his counter, as he planted his toot he saw the high-speed attempt by Ao to shoot at his leg attempting to take him off his feet. This was not something Nagi had planned for when he had previously made his move towards Ao, but it wasn't something he hadn't thought about.

As for how Nagi would counter this attempted offence by Ao, there were a number of options that went through his head at that second, but the one that stood out the best to him in the short time he had to think was a plan to utilise the blindspots that Ao created when he dropped his head and body to take action with Nagi's leg. While Ao moved to take Nagi's leg, the tall blonde sorcerer would start be pulling his leg back slightly to give himself a better footing as he put into play his actual counter. This attempted counter was nothing flashy or spectacular, in fact, it was a simply dirty cheap shot that wouldn't fly in a proper match. The move involved Nagi reaching down from the blind spot created by Ao's actions with his left hand attempting to grab Ao by his collar. If this succeeded then Nagi would follow it up instantly by reefing on the collar in an attempt to choke Ao as he threw a cheap but potentially devastating curse enhanced right aimed directly at the left kidney of Ao. If this succeeded Nagi would follow up with two more attempting to use it to bring Ao to the ground.

He’s starting to fumble. It’s easy to see now. He’s stagnant, his reactions and counters aren’t sharp enough to compensate for my onslaught, and he can’t commit to or string together a true plan. All there is now is to weave through these last flickers of defense.

“Well played, Nagi. But I’ll still beat you up, all the same as I said!”

Ao Ryu’s slender arms closed in around Nagi’s leg like the mandibles of an advancing beetle. They reached for the ankle, searingly-pale and thin but bursting with the compact strength of the boldest insect. Soon his opponent would feel the rough palms – the steely exoskeleton – bound around his leg. It didn’t matter that he made attempts to reel it back in and reground it. Ao moved on the event of his initial reaction – on the rising and chambering of his leg for a sweeping kick. He had been ahead of him from the beginning, since he made the first advancement and thus headed the turn-based ebb and flow of their fight. And he glided in such a position, armed with superior sensory ability, allowing him to react and redirect his energy quicker, and with superior speed, allowing him to move inwards and perform his grapple before Nagi could change his mind and re-root his foot.

“You’re right, Majin-san. A foot’s barely enough. I’m gonna try for his whole left calf instead.”

After failing to avoid Ao’s grapple, Nagi would be in no position to even try laying his counterattack. Such a dramatic shift of his weight would send him toppling before he could even come near contact with Ao’s collar. If he still insisted on launching such an attempt and miraculously mustered the technique to land it, Ao would have already swept his remaining leg out from under him, crushing any chance and his mobility entirely, all from the base up. He would keep his opponent’s leg secure in his blood-stifling grip and drag him a couple feet from the edge of the circle, the sole of Nagi’s foot facing up. Then he would sink into a tight kneeling stance and plant Nagi’s whole lower leg into the dirt deep enough to rim his shin with an opaque ridge of mud and saturate his foot in a thick and earthy bronze.

And once more, as quickly as things had begun, So too did they come to a close. Nagi had attempted to halt Ao's sprawl but to no avail. With his hands clenched firmly to the taller boy's calf, he pushed him toward the barrier around the area, causing him to fall backward flat on his back. Ao was the winner! Majin had almost gotten excited. Almost. Yet, the conclusion of this battle did not give him the impression he thought he would have. Wow...This class we have is...I don't really know what to think anymore."
He keeps his thoughts to himself and sighs out loud. "Ao Ryu is the winner..yaaaay." He remarks with a lazy drawl. Honestly, he felt like this first day of training was a bit of a failure. Because of this fact, he felt the need to insert himself finally.
"Alright clear the way it's my turn now. Ao I'm gonna be your opponent. Somehow I can tell you always get the shit end of the stick when it comes to these things. But as a Ryu, I'm sure you can handle it.

Majin takes a step forward into the makeshift sumo ring he had created. Staring at the now muddied Ao, he lowers himself a few inches, placing his left leg to his rear, while leading with his right. His stance was flat and firm against the ground beneath them. Both his arms raised slightly. His left arm lowered, palm upward while his right extended outward just a bit, palm facing toward Ao. Both his hands were open like the claws of dragons. His posture was not unlike the Prince Vegeta from the Dragonball series. One of Majin's favorite Anime series. Was he taking the young Ao serious or was this a game to him? Despite this grandiose posture, There seemed to be no clear openings. He was firm and rooted into the ground and he gave off an air of quality, unlike anything that had ever been seen before.
By most anyway. In truth, Ao was used to Majin's intensity. As the current head of the Dragon Clan, They had crossed paths in training a handful of times before. And Ao had seen his patriarch at a distance more than once in action. Though, being at the barrel of the gun always felt different than when one was spectating. Still, Majin had faith in his young clansman. And vowed to give him a challenge he could sink his fangs into.

"Woooh! That's right! Who won, my kin? Who won? That's right, it's Ao Ryu!"
Brushing the mud from his shoulders, Ao Ryu rolled back his shoulders to face his cousin. He grinned at his cartoonish stance, but could only wonder what lay below it. Though he'd seen the armslinging Ryu clansman in action on numerous occasions, and heard scores of accounts detailing his physical prowess and hand-to-hand style of combat, he had never grasped Majin's profile as a fighter as he could so immediately with most opponents. Yet he knew that somewhere in that overwrought frame, in those muscles bundled so tight and thick he could swear the striations showed on his skin with greater intricacy than the lines of his fingerprints, there brooded something greater, something he needed to know. His straightforward set of abilities emanated a false air of simplicity, when really Ao recognized that Majin's skills probably bounded far ahead of even the greatest cursed energy users in complexity. He knew his hands, his sprawling tendons, his callused soles better than any could, and with a greater intimacy than any had with their abstract and distant manifestations of their cursed energy. And for these reasons his options only multiplied; he fought at arm's length, always in control and in the know. He fought perfectly in tune with himself, maximized and whole with his potential surging always to the surface.

Such was the man Ao Ryu fought. And in such state, and no less, he would topple him. He would draw from him that brooding something and nourish himself with it.

"Oh, I can handle it for sure. You really just gotta be worried about if you can yourself. I'm so fired up right now I don't even know if you'll stand a chance, to be honest. Man, if only that loser samurai was here too. . ."

As his voice coasted off he blasted forth in pursuit of his cousin. Shuffling feet escalated into a thrusting side kick to Majin's leading knee. His right leg jutted outwards to fulfill the motion, threatening to compromise his mobility and balance, while his upper body swung back in a full-body balancing act. His right arm slung over the respective side of his torso like a stubborn band of armor, stiff and unrelenting enough to deflect any incoming construct of flesh. His left steadied just below his chin, similarly prepared for whatever threat it would endure.

Majin relaxed at his cousin's childish joy. It wasn't the most exciting match, but there was something about the simplistic nature of youth that reminded Majin why he did what he did, cursed energy or not. Though, that appreciation for joy would quickly leave him.
"Oh, I can handle it for sure. You really just gotta be worried about if you can yourself. I'm so fired up right now I don't even know if you'll stand a chance, to be honest. Man, if only that loser samurai was here too. . ."

Almost without delay, the young Dragon soars, his intense speed had a sharpness most sorcerers would never reach. To most, it was as though he had suddenly melted into a blur, a blitzing phantom who motion his body with ferocity. Ao seemed in control of every one of his movements. He attempts a sort of sidekick, thrusting his right leg to meet Majin's own. This was not exactly different than his previous approach in his last bout. Majin was about 5'11. Not exactly as towering as Nagi, which gave him a somewhat more compact frame. In order to meet the young Ao, Majin presses his left leg forward dashing just a foot or so closer to Ao. With less distance for his kick to travel, a major significant portion of the angle and power from his kick would be removed In just one well-executed step. From here, he would allow the leg to collide with his bent knee, bracing himself for the discomfort of the impact. With such a flat and wide stance, it would not be enough to move him and with his knees bent just enough,  it would not have the capability of pushing his knee backward either. It would collide with it, but that was it.  Ao was swift, but his weakness was his physical strength. He could endure, but that speed came as a major cost. Thus, Majin was interested in seeing how he would respond.
Track and Field - Page 3 Heaven10

With his right arm still raised in place, Majin uses his lowered left arm and thrust it outward at the same moment he presses forward. His claw-like palm was erected like a piston rotating from an upward palm to a forward-facing one all in one flawless motion. In the striking context, this was a textbook maneuver. The Dragons claw attempts to strike Ao directly in his chest with maximum force. It occurred brisk enough for the fist to align itself from a lowered position within the time it took for a man to blink, yet somehow Ao could see it. He could make it out despite such precise timing. Somehow, Ao would know that this was not Majin's speed at its highest potential. And yet... Ao's dragon instincts were likely alerting him that this attack meant bad business if it was allowed uninhibited. Though its motion implied one action, there was an innumerable degree of branching paths that could be taken within the heat of battle. Like an expanding network of roots from a tree, there contained immense variety in combat. For now, Majin's true intentions had yet to be known. Majin was unconcerned about Ao's Guard or any of his other limbs. He would continue to meet the young student as he came. He would find a way to endure any blow, and would likely accept any and all physical contact.

In a battle against a cursed spirit, they would likely come at one in the exact same manner, thus Majin assumed this would simulate the harshness of hunting cursed spirits who have a higher level of endurance or durability. In most cases, a curse could afford to take a blow or two. Us humans were not always so lucky. The atmosphere around Majin had changed. His eyes appeared glossed over, yet they never left Ao's. Majin stared deeply into him, tracking every shift in his muscles. Every bead of sweat. Every shuffle in the fibers of his clothing. Already his mind contemplated the next several courses of actions, each scenario appearing as a rapidly flickering reel of possibilities. Would Ao dodge? Would he block? Would he sprawl once more? Would he fire another kick from an alternate angle, or would he take the blow head-on and face the consequences. What should be obvious, is that Ao had the speed to avoid it. The only question that remained was...
would he?

The king of the shadows and prince of shikigami in one singular soul always seemed to run late.

A morning of a fresh and warmful one dwindled as the day progressed; the sun has revived in a brightened exhibition; lingering around the dirt road, both the twins of heftiness, thick and heavy, making the air a tougher inhalation for somebody exerting themself. The smell of sweetened smoke surfed the cool breeze into the nostrils. A time of 9:32 A.M now has set itself as a soul tardily darted a dirt road.

"DANG IT! IF I DIDN'T SURVIVE ALL-NIGHT BINGE-WATCHING THE SUPER-WONDER-BLADE, I COULD'VE GOT ENOUGH SLEEP AND CAME SOONER."

An infuriated yelp along the dirt road echoed forth. Running the path leading to the track and field is the Zen'in named Ra Zen'in, a fashionably belated student of the Tokyo Jujutsu Tech, moving forward with all his might to reach the site, hoping to not miss out on any activities. Ra's five-eight in measurement and one-hundred-thirty pounds of poundage slightly presented more steps for him as his eyes locked onto the entrance of the track and field. The school uniform he sported and semi-shoulder lengthed hair in a ponytail dangled for dear life. After reaching his destination, he fought to control his breathing, setting both arms atop his head and walking somewhere, thinking of where other students could be.

Ras' eyes caught the sight of someone, no, something; its velocity swallowed reality, becoming non-existent from his perspective. This sight woke up Ra to the fullest, trying to observe what this could've been, thinking about what could move so fast. Another thing came in view, this one more obtainable by the eye, but looked foolish as it seemed that this person fought the air. Ra rubbed his eyes and proceeded closer, sitting down in a seat roughly thirty feet away from the brawl. He knew he shouldn't remain awake until three-o'clock in the morning, but Ra felt the need to watch the final episode, although; it was lackluster. readable ending that even the creator presumably hadn't liked the outcome either.

"Hopefully, that'll be another student, and the teacher is running late like me, but that's probably not even plausible. Why would a teacher to their class be late anyway?"

He let out a sigh filled with some disappointment from oversleeping. Ra tried searching for reassurance, managing both a conversation with himself and viewing, well, trying to view what's going on at this point.
